From the start, I liked this composition and the somewhat odd subject but it took me a long while to figure out the table and background. At one point the flower pattern extended all the way across. But I felt it needed to be broken so I added an area of blue. This change seemed to animate the pears. Suddenly I saw them as curious about the window or open curtain in the back. Were they going to make a dash for it? It's always amazing to me how shapes, colors and compositions can tell stories. And changing a single aspect of a painting can visually reorganize all the other parts.

Hi Marie!! Thank you for the comment. I took a picture of it and I'm putting on my site!! I enjoyed your commentary on this painting. I find the matchbook interesting also. It makes me wonder 'with the matching colors and the lines - what is the subplot of the picture - I'm having fun with that!
