Lemon with Leaves
Oil on 1.25" deep stretched canvas , 8" x 10" - SOLD
$120 (plus $7.95 shipping within U.S. via Priority Mail)

Thanks to a recent windstorm, I found this big lemon lying beneath a tree with its leaves still attached. In my studio I set it on a table against a wall, using pennies wedged underneath to keep it upright. (I love this little coin trick which I learned from Cezanne. Apparently that's how he kept his apples and oranges from rolling off the table.) I painted it larger than life. Changing the scale of an object seems to make me look at it in a new way.

"Your color combinations are wonderfully surprising. The blue-lavender and yellow seem to both pull at and push away from each other. I noticed that both have some of the color of the other reflected off their surfaces. It’s very effective. I paint too." Anita, York Harbor

Old Barn
Oil on Canvas Board, 8" x 10" - Framed in medium dark reddish wood. SOLD
Email: marie@mariefox.com
It's fun to look at this scene and remember so clearly the act of painting it. I was standing close to the Wild Flower Bakery in Freestone (near Sebastapol in Sonoma County), looking across the street. I really loved the basic shapes of the barn and silo, and the reddish color of the barn roof. It's a small painting but it seems to give a big sense of the farm buildings.
