Poking through museums, I'm always delighted to come upon 18th century still-life paintings of food. My favorites are those by Chardin. I've made a few copies of his table-top still lifes in an attempt to understand how he painted these luscious scenes. A favorite topic of the 18th century masters was the peeled lemon. Often it's pictured at the very edge of a table or on a metal plate like the one I used here.
