This painting started as a drawing - a study in composition and values. Usually I just begin painting, hoping the lights and darks will work themselves out in a pleasing and balanced way. I've been drawing a lot recently so I decided to work out this composition in pencil before starting the painting. I found it difficult to maintain control of the values because color kept seducing me to pay more attention to it. But I managed to stick to my original value drawing and am happy with this effort. As always, I love painting the female form and telling a tale about the imagined woman. Like me, this one loves her necklaces! (The actual colors in the painting (versus online) are: leotard is dark purple, mirror is dark turqoiuse-blue, bedding is light turqoiuse blue-gray, her hair orange-red.

Wow Marie, this is an incredible painting. I love the colors you used. As usual all your paintings are a surprise and I can't wait to see what's next!
Another amazingly beautiful painting. Bravo!
She's another beauty, Marie! It's obvious how much you love painting these beautiful women. More!!!
Fabulous painting, Marie! You've really mastered the essential elements of both drawing and painting. I'm in awe!
Love it, love it, LOVE it!
You have a real talent and unique voice Marie.
You've created another interesting story here with this intriguing woman in front of the mirror. The thought of the small necklace in relation to her whole self, as the focus of her attention, brings a smile.
Your passion for painting women sines through the work, Marie. These are 'Hopper' like but in a richer and more detailed way.
Just masterful.
Unique, I agree.
