In this painting I had to work hard to stay in control. The beauty of the flowers was overwhelming, tempting me to record every luscious little detail. So I went for a simplified color scheme and strong lights and darks. I'm especially happy with the clippers.

Beautiful roses, and they are so hard to paint, with so many layers of petals. Are they from your garden? The clippers look perfect- I really like this one.

Wow, this is really impressive! I especially like the scissors, but all of it is terrific: the glass, the shadows, the edges, the flowers! Well done!

Thank you, Diana. Yes, these roses are from my garden. I clipped all the roses and buds just before my husband pruned it to almost nothing so he could dig it up and move it to another spot. My painting's kind of a last minute photo of our departing guests! Glad you like the clippers. Sometimes, a part of a painting really works and justifies the effort put into the whole. That's how I felt about the clippers.

This is really beautiful. Do you ever paint self portraits?

Carol, I love the scissors too and was amazed at how they just "happened". One of those deliciously unexpected moments when the Muse wiggled my paintbrush. (Nightly I leave chocolate for her in my studio, but she doesn't visit as often as I'd like!) But I'm always inspired by your elegant and bold art.
